Zasha Skye, Body of Water

25/10/2024 - 28/10/2024

‘Body of Water’ is an exploration of the idea that water can hold memories. Water is a medium that changes form and moves in space; the same droplet could have once formed a river, and may now be a cloud. Zashas references to water’s ability to shapeshift and pays homage to its ever-presence; the Wainui river – a body of water she grew up beside – finds home in the piece Wainui. Her ancestry and the life-giving nature of water are held dearly in Tīpuna. Her reflection on woman hood and the nature of the human body find representation in Papatūānuku, our mother earth.

The works explore a multitude of color and tonal range through the use of oil paint. Each piece is an encapsulated moment in time created through portraiture, forming a sense of emotion and connection between the audience and the artwork.

Zasha Skye’s Custom Mid-Century Couch

The frame of the couch is a New Zealand 1960s ‘Vono’ edition, made with Mahogany timber. Using Vono spring technology, this couch can also transform into a day bed.

The upholstery has custom printed artwork on 100% Belgian linen, with 100% cotton backing and lining. The couch has an embellished name plate by artist Chris Meek.
